Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Heavy Haul Specialist to join our team in Concord, Massachusetts. This role is crucial for managing the complex logistics of transporting oversize and overweight loads across various regions. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning routes, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations, coordinating with various stakeholders, and executing safe and efficient deliveries. This position requires a strong understanding of heavy haul equipment, permitting processes, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute the safe and timely transportation of oversize and overweight loads.
- Obtain necessary permits and escorts for specialized hauls in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Select appropriate heavy haul equipment (trailers, trucks) based on load dimensions and weight.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, ensuring operational readiness and safety.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and regulatory authorities regarding load status and any potential issues.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, company policies, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs, records, and documentation related to each heavy haul project.
- Perform minor mechanical adjustments or maintenance as needed during transit.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to heavy haul best practices.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) with required endorsements.
- Minimum 4 years of proven experience in heavy haul/oversize load transportation.
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations governing oversize/overweight permits and operations.
- Proficiency in operating various heavy haul equipment, including multi-axle trailers.
- Strong understanding of load securement techniques for specialized cargo.
- Excellent spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills for route planning and obstacle negotiation.
- Exceptional safety record and commitment to safe operational practices.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in dynamic environments.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specialized rigging and lifting operations.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation and logistics software.
- HAZMAT endorsement.
- Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment issues.
