Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Hazardous Materials Chemist with a strong focus on Safety & Compliance to join our team in Orlando, FL. This critical role involves ensuring the safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials in strict adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will possess robust analytical skills, comprehensive knowledge of chemical properties, and an unwavering commitment to environmental and occupational safety. You will be instrumental in maintaining our high standards of compliance and contributing to a safer environment for our operations and the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemical analysis, characterization, and identification of hazardous waste streams.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant regulations, including EPA, DOT, RCRA, OSHA, and company policies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety protocols, emergency response plans, and standard operating procedures for hazardous materials handling.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to operational teams on proper waste segregation, packaging, labeling, and manifesting procedures.
  • Perform site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety and environmental standards.
  • Prepare and submit accurate regulatory reports and documentation related to hazardous waste management.
  • Assist in the training of personnel on hazardous materials safety, spill prevention, and emergency response.
  • Manage chemical inventories and maintain accurate records of hazardous materials movements and disposal.
  • Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the development of corrective actions.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in hazardous waste management, environmental compliance, or industrial chemistry.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local hazardous waste regulations (e.g., RCRA, DOT 49 CFR, OSHA 29 CFR).
  • Proficiency in chemical analysis techniques and instrumentation.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science.
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or other relevant certifications.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Familiarity with waste treatment technologies.
  • Experience in an industrial or environmental consulting setting.
