Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Grief & Loss Mentor to join our team, focusing on meaningful social service. In this vital role, you will provide empathetic support and guidance to individuals and families navigating the complex journey of grief and loss. This position involves facilitating coping strategies, connecting individuals with relevant resources, and fostering a supportive environment for healing and recovery. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of grief processes, excellent interpersonal skills, and a genuine desire to serve the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and group mentoring sessions to individuals and families experiencing grief and loss.
- Develop and implement personalized support plans tailored to the unique needs of mentees.
- Facilitate open and honest communication, offering a safe space for emotional expression.
- Educate mentees on healthy coping mechanisms and resilience-building strategies.
- Connect individuals with appropriate external resources, including therapy, support groups, and community services.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions and progress.
- Collaborate with other team members and community partners to enhance service delivery.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to grief counseling and social services.
- Advocate for the needs of mentees within the community.
Required Skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
- Previous experience in grief counseling, crisis intervention, or a similar support role.
- Knowledge of local community resources in Southwest Alabama.
- Certification in grief counseling or related therapeutic approaches.
- Experience facilitating support groups.
