Job Description
Republic Services is seeking dedicated Field Sorters for outdoor work in our Birmingham, Alabama facility. This role involves manual sorting of various materials in an outdoor environment, contributing directly to our recycling efforts. We offer a unique 4-day work week option, allowing for better work-life balance. This physically demanding role requires attention to detail and a commitment to safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manually sort and separate recyclable materials such as paper, plastics, glass, and metals on a sorting line.
- Identify and remove contaminants from the material stream.
- Ensure proper handling and segregation of different material types.
- Operate sorting equipment safely and efficiently (after training, if applicable).
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
- Work effectively as part of a team in an outdoor setting, regardless of weather conditions.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physical labor, including standing for extended periods, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and repetitive motions.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail for material identification.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable transportation to and from the work site.
- Commitment to safety and environmental regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in waste management, recycling, or general labor.
- Experience working in an outdoor or industrial environment.
- High school diploma or GED.
