Job Description
We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Digital Archivist (Scribe) with a strong focus on historical data to join our team in The Woodlands, TX. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the digitization, indexing, and preservation of ExxonMobil’s extensive collection of historical documents, records, and media. Your work will ensure the integrity, accessibility, and longevity of our corporate memory, supporting research, legal compliance, and strategic insights. Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-volume digitization of historical documents, photographs, maps, and audio-visual materials using specialized equipment.
- Create, edit, and manage detailed metadata records according to established archival standards (e.g., Dublin Core, EAD, MARC).
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and authenticity of digital assets throughout their lifecycle.
- Implement and monitor digital preservation strategies to mitigate risks of data loss and technological obsolescence.
- Assist researchers and internal stakeholders with accessing historical information and conducting archival inquiries.
- Develop and maintain organized filing systems for both physical and digital archives.
- Collaborate with IT and other departments to optimize archival systems and workflows.
- Participate in special projects related to historical exhibitions, publications, and corporate storytelling.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in digital archiving, records management, or a related field.
- Proficiency with digital imaging techniques and archival software (e.g., Archivematica, Preservica, DSpace).
- Strong understanding of metadata standards and controlled vocabularies.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and cataloging.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large volumes of information and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Library Science (MLS), Archival Studies, Information Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with corporate archives or historical collections in the energy industry.
- Familiarity with various historical data formats and preservation challenges.
- Experience with digital asset management (DAM) systems.
- Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property laws related to archival materials.
