Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Chemist to join our state-of-the-art diagnostic medical laboratory in San Diego, CA. This role is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our clinical chemistry testing, contributing directly to patient care. The successful candidate will be involved in method validation, quality control, troubleshooting, and assisting with complex analytical issues across various shifts, including evening and weekend, for which a shift differential will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex analytical testing and interpret results within the clinical chemistry department.
- Develop, validate, and implement new analytical methods and instrumentation for clinical use.
- Monitor and evaluate quality control data, troubleshoot instrument malfunctions, and resolve technical issues.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, COLA) and internal quality assurance policies.
- Participate in proficiency testing programs and maintain high standards of laboratory accreditation.
- Provide expert consultation to laboratory staff, pathologists, and clinicians regarding test interpretation and methodology.
- Assist with staff training and competency assessment.
- Contribute to research and development initiatives to enhance diagnostic capabilities.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all analytical activities and quality control measures.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Clinical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Current certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) (ASCP) or equivalent, with a specialty in Clinical Chemistry.
- Minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral or post-master's experience in a high-volume clinical chemistry laboratory.
- Demonstrated expertise in method validation, instrument calibration, and quality control procedures.
- Strong understanding of laboratory accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic laboratory environment.
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automated clinical chemistry analyzers (e.g., Roche, Siemens, Beckman Coulter).
- Familiarity with mass spectrometry, immunoassay, and other advanced analytical techniques.
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a clinical laboratory setting.
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals related to clinical chemistry.
- Ability to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends.
