Job Description

We are seeking a talented and dedicated Church Organist and Music Director to lead our worship music program. This stable weekend role involves providing organ and piano accompaniment for Sunday services, directing our volunteer choir, and overseeing special musical events. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional musical skills, a deep understanding of sacred music traditions, and a passion for fostering a vibrant worship environment. This position offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to the spiritual life of our congregation and become an integral part of our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide organ and piano accompaniment for all regular Sunday worship services.
  • Direct and rehearse the adult volunteer choir, preparing anthems and special music.
  • Plan and select hymns, service music, and anthems in collaboration with the Senior Pastor.
  • Oversee the maintenance and tuning schedule for the organ and pianos.
  • Coordinate music for special services (e.g., Christmas, Easter, Maundy Thursday).
  • Recruit and mentor new choir members and potential guest musicians.
  • Manage the church's music library and resources.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in organ and piano performance.
  • Strong conducting and choir direction skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of sacred music, hymnody, and liturgical practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
  • Organizational skills for managing music resources and schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music, Organ Performance, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a Church Organist or Music Director in a Protestant tradition.
  • Familiarity with various musical styles, including contemporary Christian music.
  • Experience with music software and digital recording tools.
