Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and talented Church Organist / Music Director to lead our weekend worship services and oversee the musical ministries of our church. This stable part-time role is essential to maintaining the high quality of our traditional and contemporary worship services. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organ and piano skills, strong leadership qualities, and a deep understanding of sacred music. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to our spiritual life and community engagement, primarily focusing on weekend responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the principal organist and pianist for all scheduled weekend worship services and special events (e.g., Christmas, Easter).
- Select and prepare appropriate sacred music for liturgies, hymns, anthems, and solos, in consultation with the Senior Pastor.
- Direct and rehearse the adult choir, and potentially other ensembles (e.g., bell choir, children's choir) as needed.
- Oversee the maintenance and tuning of the church organ and pianos.
- Collaborate with the pastoral staff to plan and coordinate worship services and special musical offerings.
- Recruit, train, and encourage volunteer musicians.
- Manage the music library and ensure proper licensing for all music used.
- Attend staff meetings as required.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in organ and piano performance, including improvisation.
- Strong understanding of sacred music, hymns, and liturgical practices.
- Experience in choir direction and vocal coaching.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
- Familiarity with various musical styles, from classical to contemporary sacred music.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music, Organ Performance, or Sacred Music.
- Previous experience as an Organist or Music Director in a church setting.
- Knowledge of music technology and audio systems.
- Experience with other musical instruments (e.g., guitar, brass).
