Job Description
King School seeks a dynamic and passionate Full-Time Choral Director to lead and expand our vocal music program across various grade levels. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing multiple choirs, teaching vocal techniques, and preparing students for performances, competitions, and community events. This role requires a dedicated educator with a strong background in choral conducting, vocal pedagogy, and a commitment to nurturing young talent. The Choral Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the musical landscape of our school, fostering a love for choral music, and contributing to our rich artistic culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and manage multiple choral ensembles (e.g., Middle School Choir, Upper School Concert Choir, Chamber Singers).
- Develop and implement a comprehensive choral curriculum that aligns with the school's educational philosophy and performing arts goals.
- Teach vocal techniques, music theory, sight-reading, and ear training to students of varying skill levels.
- Select appropriate repertoire that challenges and inspires students, covering diverse musical styles and periods.
- Organize, schedule, and lead rehearsals, ensuring high standards of musicality and performance.
- Plan and execute student performances, concerts, and recitals throughout the academic year.
- Collaborate with other performing arts faculty to create interdisciplinary productions and events.
- Audition, select, and mentor students for advanced choral opportunities.
- Manage the choral budget, equipment, and music library.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school administration regarding program progress and student achievement.
- Participate in school faculty meetings, professional development, and community events.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and growth.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Choral Conducting, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience directing choral ensembles at the middle or high school level.
- Demonstrated expertise in choral conducting techniques, vocal pedagogy, and music theory.
- Proficiency in piano accompaniment and sight-reading.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Knowledge of a broad range of choral repertoire.
- Familiarity with music technology for rehearsal and performance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Choral Conducting or Music Education.
- Experience with music arranging or composition.
- Proven track record of successful choral program growth and student achievement.
- Experience integrating technology into music education.
- Certification in music education (if applicable to state).
