Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Chemotherapy Pharmacy Technician to join our advanced clinical setting in New Port Richey, FL. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in the precise and safe preparation of sterile compounded products, specifically chemotherapy medications, for our oncology patients. You will work within a state-of-the-art facility, adhering strictly to USP and guidelines, ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality for our patients and staff. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of pharmaceutical calculations, and a commitment to patient care in a fast-paced environment. You will collaborate closely with pharmacists and oncology nurses to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical support.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately prepare and compound sterile chemotherapy and other hazardous medications following physician orders and established protocols.
- Perform aseptic technique consistently during the preparation of all sterile products in compliance with USP <797> and <800> standards.
- Maintain precise inventory control for chemotherapy drugs and related supplies, including ordering, receiving, and proper storage.
- Conduct daily quality assurance checks, including temperature monitoring, hood cleaning, and equipment calibration.
- Document all preparation activities, including lot numbers, expiration dates, and quantities, ensuring full traceability.
- Assist pharmacists with medication reconciliation, patient profiling, and drug information requests specific to oncology.
- Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current with best practices in sterile compounding and chemotherapy safety.
- Ensure proper disposal of hazardous waste materials in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient care and workflow efficiency.
Required Skills
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification from PTCB or NHA.
- Current Pharmacy Technician licensure in the State of Florida.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a hospital or clinical pharmacy setting, with at least 1 year specializing in sterile compounding of hazardous medications (e.g., chemotherapy).
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and knowledge of USP <797> and <800> regulations.
- Strong mathematical skills for accurate dosage calculations and conversions.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a related field.
- Advanced certification in sterile compounding or oncology pharmacy technician specialties.
- Experience with automated dispensing systems and electronic health records (EHR) specific to oncology.
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma principles in a pharmacy setting.
