Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Brewing Chemist with a strong focus on Beverage Science to join our innovative R&D team in Millcreek, UT. This role is crucial for the development, analysis, and quality control of our diverse beverage portfolio, ensuring product excellence and driving flavor innovation. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of chemical principles as they apply to brewing, fermentation, and beverage formulation, coupled with a passion for creating consumer-preferred products in a fun and collaborative work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive chemical analysis of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished beverage products.
- Develop and validate new analytical methods for detecting and quantifying key beverage components and contaminants.
- Support product development initiatives by formulating new beverage prototypes and optimizing existing recipes.
- Monitor and troubleshoot fermentation processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency and quality improvement.
- Collaborate with sensory scientists to correlate analytical data with flavor profiles and consumer preferences.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on experimental findings, contributing to technical discussions.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and quality standards in the laboratory and production environment.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a brewing, beverage, or food science laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS, spectrophotometry, and wet chemistry.
- Strong understanding of fermentation science and beverage chemistry.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Food Science, or related discipline.
- Experience with sensory evaluation methodologies and data interpretation.
- Knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO, HACCP, GMP).
- Experience in scaling up laboratory formulations to pilot or production scale.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis software for data interpretation.
