Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Brewing Chemist with a strong focus on beverage science to join our dynamic team in Pasco, WA. This role is crucial for ensuring the consistent quality, stability, and sensory attributes of our diverse product portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in analytical chemistry, microbiology, and a passion for the craft brewing industry. You will be instrumental in developing and refining our quality control protocols, conducting laboratory analyses, and contributing to new product development in a fun and engaging work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine chemical and microbiological analyses on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including spectrophotometers, pH meters, dissolved oxygen meters, and GC systems.
  • Monitor fermentation processes, yeast health, and beer stability parameters.
  • Conduct sensory evaluations and contribute to taste panel discussions to identify and address flavor defects.
  • Develop and implement new analytical methods and quality assurance protocols.
  • Troubleshoot quality issues and provide data-driven recommendations for process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of all laboratory analyses and quality control data.
  • Collaborate with brewing, packaging, and innovation teams on product development and process optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety standards (HACCP, GMPs) and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, Microbiology, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a quality control or laboratory role, preferably within the beverage or food industry.
  • Proficiency in analytical chemistry techniques and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Strong understanding of brewing science, fermentation, and yeast physiology.
  • Experience with microbiological plating, identification, and sanitation monitoring.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Formal brewing education (e.g., Siebel Institute, IBD, UC Davis).
  • Experience with sensory analysis and advanced flavor chemistry.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis software.
  • Prior experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
