Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Automated Dispensing Machine Tech to join our hospital systems team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) and related pharmacy automation systems within our hospital environment. This position requires a strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with pharmacy staff, IT, and clinical teams to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of these vital systems. Your expertise will directly contribute to medication safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of automated dispensing machines (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell) to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to hardware, software, and networking of ADCs, escalating complex issues to appropriate IT or vendor support.
- Conduct new ADC installations, upgrades, and system configurations, ensuring integration with existing hospital information systems.
- Provide training and support to pharmacy and clinical staff on the proper use and functionality of automated dispensing systems.
- Manage and reconcile inventory within ADCs, ensuring accurate stock levels and preventing discrepancies.
- Monitor system performance, identify potential issues, and implement proactive solutions to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance, troubleshooting, and system changes.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to medication management and patient safety.
- Collaborate with IT, Pharmacy, and other departments to implement system enhancements and process improvements.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with automated dispensing machines (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell) in a healthcare setting.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for hardware and software issues.
- Basic understanding of networking principles and IT systems.
- Proficiency in using hospital information systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and pharmacy management software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and support diverse staff.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Biomedical Technology, IT, Pharmacy Technician).
- Certifications related to automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis Certified Technician).
- Prior experience in a hospital pharmacy or IT support role.
- Knowledge of medication safety practices and regulatory standards.
