Job Description
Are you a music enthusiast with an insatiable drive to discover the next big thing? Warner Music Group is seeking a highly energetic and passionate A&R Scout (Trainee) to join our talent discovery team in Downtown Cleveland. This entry-level role is perfect for someone with a deep love for music, a keen ear for emerging sounds, and a natural ability to network within the local music scene. You will be instrumental in identifying and cultivating relationships with promising new artists, bands, and producers, helping to shape the future of music.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively scout and identify emerging musical talent across various genres through live performances, digital platforms, and industry events in the Cleveland area and beyond.
- Attend local showcases, open mic nights, concerts, and other music-related gatherings to discover artists with potential.
- Build and maintain a strong network of contacts within the music industry, including artists, managers, producers, promoters, and local influencers.
- Stay informed on current music trends, cultural shifts, and competitor activities to inform talent scouting strategies.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on potential talent, including market analysis, competitive landscape, and artistic viability.
- Assist the A&R team with various administrative tasks, research projects, and artist development initiatives.
- Represent Warner Music Group with professionalism and enthusiasm at all times.
Required Skills
- Profound passion for music, with a broad knowledge of diverse genres and artists.
- Exceptional interpersonal, networking, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong observational and analytical abilities to identify unique talent and market potential.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively.
- Basic understanding of the music industry landscape and artist development process.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for live events and scouting activities.
- Proficiency in basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing social media and digital platforms for talent discovery and engagement.
- Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs) and music production basics.
- Previous internship or volunteer experience within the music industry (e.g., record label, management, venue).
- Active participation in the local Cleveland music scene.
