Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Ancient Life Specialist with a dual focus on Education and Curation to join our esteemed team. This role is pivotal in bringing the fascinating world of paleontology and ancient ecosystems to life for our visitors and researchers. The specialist will be responsible for the curation and management of our growing collection of ancient life specimens, as well as developing and delivering engaging educational programs for a wide range of audiences, from K-12 students to lifelong learners. The ideal candidate will combine strong scientific expertise with excellent communication and pedagogical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, document, and conserve ancient life collections, including fossils, geological samples, and related artifacts.
- Develop and implement educational programs, workshops, and tours on ancient life topics for various age groups and educational levels.
- Curate and contribute to the design of exhibits focusing on prehistoric environments, evolution, and fossil discoveries.
- Conduct research on collection specimens to enhance scientific understanding and inform educational content.
- Engage with the public through presentations, lectures, and interactive demonstrations.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., curatorial, education, marketing) and external partners (e.g., universities, research institutions).
- Assist with grant writing and fundraising efforts to support collection growth and program development.
- Ensure compliance with collection management policies, ethical guidelines, and safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Paleontology, Geology, Evolutionary Biology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in collection management or curation within a museum, university, or research institution.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering engaging educational programs for diverse audiences.
- Strong knowledge of ancient life, geological time scales, and evolutionary processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
- Proficiency in database management systems relevant to collections (e.g., EMu, Specify).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience with exhibit design and implementation.
- Familiarity with grant writing and fundraising in a non-profit setting.
- Proficiency in a second language relevant to research or outreach.
- Certification in museum studies or science communication.
