Job Description
Join IBM as an AI Ethics Intern with a focus on Social Science & Research. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and practical applications in AI ethics. You will work alongside leading researchers and engineers to identify, analyze, and mitigate ethical challenges in AI systems. Your work will involve applying social science methodologies to understand human-AI interaction, develop ethical frameworks, and help shape responsible AI policies and practices. This role is ideal for students passionate about the intersection of technology, society, and ethical principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews and synthesize research on AI ethics, fairness, accountability, transparency, and human-AI interaction.
- Assist in designing and executing qualitative and quantitative research studies related to the societal impact of AI.
- Analyze data and contribute to the interpretation of findings, drawing insights relevant to ethical AI development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (AI researchers, engineers, policy experts) to integrate ethical considerations into AI product lifecycles.
- Prepare research summaries, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the development and refinement of AI ethics guidelines and tools.
- Participate in team meetings, workshops, and discussions on emerging ethical challenges in AI.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Social Sciences (e.g., Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Political Science), Philosophy, Ethics, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Demonstrated interest in AI ethics, responsible technology, and the societal implications of AI.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python, SPSS, NVivo) is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or research experience in technology ethics, public policy, or social impact.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and their ethical considerations.
- Experience with survey design, interview techniques, and statistical analysis.
- Publications or presentations in relevant academic or industry forums.
