Job Description
Are you an 18-year-old passionate about the environment and eager to make a tangible difference? The Nature Conservancy is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Environmental Aides to support various state conservation projects across New Mexico. This entry-level position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in ecological restoration, wildlife habitat improvement, data collection, and community engagement. You will work alongside experienced conservation professionals, contributing directly to projects that protect New Mexico’s diverse ecosystems. This role is ideal for individuals looking to explore a career in environmental science, conservation, or outdoor management, providing foundational skills and an immersive experience in real-world conservation efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the restoration of natural habitats, including planting native species and removing invasive vegetation.
- Participate in trail maintenance, fence repair, and other infrastructure projects within conservation areas.
- Aid in data collection for wildlife monitoring, water quality testing, and vegetation surveys.
- Operate and maintain basic hand tools and light power equipment safely under supervision.
- Support community outreach events and educational programs, engaging with local residents and visitors.
- Document project progress through photography and written reports.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations during fieldwork.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and volunteers on various tasks.
