Job Description
Join the Sonoma County Library team as a Library Page, a perfect opportunity for motivated 14-year-olds seeking quiet work in a supportive environment. This part-time position focuses on maintaining the organization and tidiness of our library collections during afternoon shifts, ensuring materials are readily accessible to our patrons. It’s an excellent chance to contribute to your community, develop organizational skills, and gain valuable work experience in a quiet, focused setting. You will be instrumental in keeping our library a welcoming and efficient space for all.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately shelve books, periodicals, and other library materials according to the Dewey Decimal System or other established organizational methods.
- Maintain the neatness and order of shelves, ensuring materials are in their correct locations.
- Assist with tidying public areas, including reading tables and common spaces.
- Empty book drops and assist with preparing materials for shelving.
- Relocate misplaced items to their proper sections.
- Follow all library policies and procedures to ensure a safe and organized environment.
- Communicate effectively with library staff regarding tasks and any issues encountered.
Required Skills
- Must be 14 years of age at the time of application.
- Ability to read and understand English.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
- Capable of working independently and quietly.
- Physical ability to lift up to 20 pounds, push loaded book carts, and stand/walk for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- A genuine interest in books and the library environment.
- Previous experience volunteering or assisting in a school or community setting.
- Good organizational habits and a methodical approach to tasks.
