Job Description
Are you ready to kickstart a rewarding career in the transportation industry? ABF Freight is offering an incredible opportunity for aspiring Heavy Vehicle Operators through our Trainee program, which includes paid CDL-A school. No prior experience is necessary; we’re looking for dedicated individuals eager to learn, committed to safety, and ready to become an essential part of our logistics team. As a Trainee, you will receive comprehensive classroom and hands-on training to prepare you for a successful career as a professional Class A CDL driver. Upon successful completion of the training and obtaining your CDL-A, you will transition into a full-time Heavy Vehicle Operator role.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in all classroom and behind-the-wheel training sessions for CDL-A licensure.
- Learn and adhere to all federal, state, and company regulations related to commercial vehicle operation.
- Develop proficiency in pre-trip and post-trip inspections, basic vehicle maintenance checks, and safety protocols.
- Practice safe driving techniques, including defensive driving, proper braking, and maneuvering heavy vehicles.
- Understand and execute proper freight handling procedures, including loading, unloading, and securing cargo.
- Maintain accurate records and logbooks as required by Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policy.
- Communicate effectively with instructors, supervisors, and fellow trainees.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety at all times.
Required Skills
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
- Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
- Willingness to commit to a rigorous training program.
- Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
- Physical ability to perform tasks associated with heavy vehicle operation, including lifting, bending, and climbing.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role or outdoor work.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- A desire for continuous learning and professional development.
