Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and physically capable Brewery Keg Washer to join our production team at Surly Brewing Company. This essential role ensures the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation for all our beer kegs, directly impacting the quality of our finished product. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, wet environment. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining our automated keg washing equipment, performing rigorous cleaning cycles, and adhering to strict quality control and safety protocols. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain automated keg washing and filling machinery.
  • Perform thorough pre-rinse, caustic wash, sanitization, and CO2 purging of kegs.
  • Conduct visual inspections of kegs for cleanliness, damage, and structural integrity.
  • Monitor and adjust chemical concentrations, water temperatures, and pressure levels for optimal cleaning.
  • Load and unload kegs onto washing lines, requiring regular lifting and maneuvering of heavy objects.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including all equipment and surrounding floors.
  • Strictly adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety regulations, and quality control standards.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and report major malfunctions to maintenance or supervisors.
  • Assist with other general brewery cleaning, sanitation, and production tasks as needed.

Required Skills

  • Ability to repeatedly lift, push, and pull heavy objects (up to 165 lbs for full kegs).
  • Strong attention to detail and a meticulous approach to cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for operating and performing minor maintenance on machinery.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Comfortable working in a wet, noisy, and temperature-variable production environment.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and following established protocols.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a brewery, food production, or manufacturing setting.
  • Experience operating industrial cleaning or sanitation equipment.
  • Forklift certification or demonstrated ability to operate a forklift safely.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and HACCP principles.
