Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Purchasing Agent to join our supply chain team in Lexington, KY. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of pharmaceutical products, medical supplies, and other necessary items for our operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing inventory levels, negotiating with vendors, and optimizing purchasing processes to support our mission of delivering exceptional healthcare solutions. This is an on-site position requiring strong analytical capabilities and a proactive approach to supply chain management within a dynamic healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the procurement process for pharmaceutical products, medical supplies, and other inventory items.
  • Monitor inventory levels and reorder products to prevent stockouts while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Negotiate favorable pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with vendors and suppliers.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and ensure compliance with contract terms and quality standards.
  • Process purchase orders accurately and in a timely manner, verifying quantities and specifications.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, clinicians, and other departments to understand their supply needs and forecast demand.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements within the purchasing function.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and generate reports on inventory, expenditures, and vendor performance.
  • Stay informed of market trends, new products, and regulatory changes affecting pharmaceutical purchasing.
  • Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in a healthcare or pharmaceutical setting.
  • Proven negotiation skills and the ability to build strong vendor relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid understanding of pharmaceutical product categories and medical supply nomenclature.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Certification in Purchasing or Supply Chain Management (e.g., CPSM, CPIM).
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems like SAP or Oracle.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance standards related to pharmaceutical purchasing.
  • Familiarity with GPO contracts and formulary management.
