Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Grant Writer with a passion for non-profit work to join our dedicated team. This is a 100% remote position, offering the flexibility to work from home while making a significant impact on our community. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in securing funding for our diverse programs and services by researching potential grants, assisting in the development of compelling proposals, and contributing to stewardship efforts. This role is ideal for an entry-level professional eager to grow their career in grant writing within a supportive and mission-driven environment. You will work closely with our experienced development team to learn the intricacies of grant acquisition and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
- Assist in the preparation, writing, and submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and applications.
- Gather and organize supporting documentation, including program data, budgets, and organizational information.
- Collaborate with program managers and finance staff to ensure accurate and compelling proposal content.
- Maintain a grant calendar and tracking system for submissions, deadlines, and reporting requirements.
- Assist with grant reporting, ensuring timely submission of interim and final reports to funders.
- Help develop and maintain relationships with grant funders and partners.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of grant writing processes and best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the development department's goals.
Required Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (US English).
- Strong research and analytical abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a remote environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated interest or experience in the non-profit sector.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Non-Profit Management, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or volunteer experience in grant writing or development.
- Familiarity with grant management software or CRM systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce).
- Understanding of the funding landscape for social services or community development.
- Knowledge of the New Orleans community and its social challenges.
