Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and reliable Hospital Waste Management Porter to join our essential services team. This crucial role involves the safe and efficient collection, segregation, and disposal of all types of waste generated within our hospital facilities, ensuring compliance with strict health and safety regulations. You will be an integral part of maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Key Responsibilities
- Safely collect and transport various types of waste (clinical, domestic, recycling) from wards and departments to designated disposal areas.
- Ensure correct segregation of waste streams in accordance with Trust policies and national regulations.
- Operate and maintain waste compactors, balers, and other waste handling equipment.
- Record waste volumes and types accurately for environmental reporting.
- Adhere strictly to infection control, health and safety, and environmental protection guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of waste storage areas and equipment.
- Respond promptly to waste collection requests and urgent disposal needs.
- Work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure smooth waste management operations.
Required Skills
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures.
- Strong understanding and commitment to health and safety practices.
- Good physical fitness to lift, push, and pull heavy waste containers.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for recording purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar waste management or porter role, preferably within a healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of waste segregation protocols and environmental regulations.
- Certification in manual handling and basic first aid.
