Job Description

Are you a student eager to gain hands-on experience in market research, retail operations, and consumer insights? Target Corporation is seeking enthusiastic and detail-oriented Secret Shopping Interns for our paid summer placement program in Cleveland, OH. This internship offers a unique opportunity to directly contribute to understanding and enhancing our guest experience by evaluating store performance from a customer’s perspective. You will conduct anonymous store visits, observe key operational metrics, and provide valuable feedback that directly influences strategic decisions. This role is perfect for students looking to develop their analytical, observational, and communication skills in a fast-paced retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assigned secret shopper visits to various Target locations and competitor stores within the Cleveland area, adhering strictly to provided guidelines and scenarios.
  • Meticulously observe and document specific aspects of the shopping experience, including customer service, product availability, store cleanliness, merchandising, and promotional execution.
  • Accurately record findings and submit detailed reports through our designated digital platform in a timely manner.
  • Provide constructive and objective feedback based on observations, identifying areas of excellence and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all assignments, observations, and findings.
  • Collaborate with program mentors and team members to discuss insights and contribute to project debriefs.
  • Adhere to all company policies and ethical guidelines for market research activities.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program (e.g., Business, Marketing, Retail Management, Communications, or related fields).
  • Excellent observational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Strong written communication skills for clear and concise report generation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable using basic computer applications and mobile devices for data entry.
  • High level of integrity and discretion.
  • Must have reliable transportation to conduct store visits within the Cleveland area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in retail or customer service roles (even part-time or volunteer).
  • Prior experience with survey completion or data collection.
