Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Lead Forensic Analyst to join our state-of-the-art Crime Lab in Biloxi, Mississippi. This pivotal role involves leading complex forensic analyses, mentoring junior staff, and contributing significantly to criminal investigations throughout the state. The successful candidate will be an expert in various forensic disciplines, providing crucial scientific evidence and expert testimony in court. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform advanced forensic analysis on a wide range of evidence types, including but not limited to DNA, trace evidence, firearms, and toxicology.
  • Oversee case assignments, ensuring timely and accurate completion of analyses and reports.
  • Develop and implement new analytical methods and technologies, staying abreast of advancements in forensic science.
  • Provide expert testimony in local, state, and federal court proceedings.
  • Mentor, train, and supervise junior forensic analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot sophisticated laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Adhere strictly to quality assurance and control protocols, maintaining accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and other judicial personnel.
  • Participate in crime scene investigations when specialized forensic expertise is required.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in at least two major forensic disciplines (e.g., DNA, Ballistics, Toxicology, Trace Evidence).
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining advanced forensic laboratory instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for technical reports and court testimony.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Thorough understanding of quality assurance/quality control procedures and laboratory accreditation standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex cases simultaneously under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field.
  • Certification by a recognized forensic science board (e.g., ABC, ABFT).
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Previous experience testifying as an expert witness in criminal court.
  • Experience in developing and validating new analytical methods.
