Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Data Specialist with a strong research focus on the Houston Energy Sector. In this role, you will be crucial in collecting, processing, and analyzing vast datasets related to energy markets, production, infrastructure, and policy within the Houston area and its broader influence. Your work will directly support our research teams, providing foundational data insights for reports, forecasts, and strategic advisory services. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a robust understanding of data management principles, and a passion for the energy industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, collect, and integrate diverse datasets pertinent to the Houston energy sector from various internal and external sources.
- Perform data cleaning, validation, and transformation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Develop and maintain robust data pipelines and databases for efficient data storage and retrieval.
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis of energy market trends, commodity prices, policy changes, and technological advancements relevant to the Houston region.
- Collaborate closely with research analysts and consultants to translate data findings into actionable insights and compelling visualizations.
- Support the preparation of detailed data-driven reports, presentations, and client deliverables.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of data sources, recommending improvements and new acquisition strategies.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices in data management, analytics, and energy sector developments.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in SQL for database querying and management.
- Experience with data analysis tools and languages (e.g., Python, R, Excel, Tableau).
- Strong understanding of data warehousing, ETL processes, and data modeling concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to collect, clean, and analyze large, complex datasets.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Solid knowledge of the energy industry, particularly the oil and gas, power, and renewables sectors in the Gulf Coast region.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaborating with diverse teams and presenting findings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Familiarity with GIS tools and spatial data analysis.
- Previous experience in energy market research, consulting, or a related analytical role.
- Knowledge of statistical modeling and machine learning techniques.
