Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Instrument Repair Specialist with a dedicated focus on woodwind and brass instruments to join our team in New Port Richey, FL. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of woodwind (flutes, clarinets, saxophones, oboes, bassoons) and brass (trumpets, trombones, French horns, tubas, baritones) instruments. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of instrument mechanics, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality repairs that restore instruments to their optimal playing condition. This position is perfect for someone who loves music, enjoys hands-on work, and takes pride in helping musicians keep their instruments in top shape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic assessments to identify issues with woodwind and brass instruments.
  • Execute precise repairs including dent removal, solder work, key adjustments, pad replacement, cork replacement, and valve/slide maintenance.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication for various instruments.
  • Test instruments post-repair to ensure proper function, intonation, and playability.
  • Provide accurate repair estimates and effectively communicate with customers regarding repair timelines and costs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
  • Order and manage inventory of repair parts and supplies.
  • Stay current with new repair techniques, tools, and instrument technologies.
  • Collaborate with sales staff to provide comprehensive solutions to customers.
  • Document all repair work thoroughly and accurately.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in woodwind and brass instrument repair.
  • Proficiency with specialized repair tools and techniques for both woodwind and brass instruments.
  • Strong understanding of instrument acoustics, mechanics, and construction.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
  • Exceptional manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for customer interaction.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and inventory management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal training or certification from a recognized instrument repair program.
  • Active musician with personal experience playing woodwind or brass instruments.
  • Experience with a wide range of instrument brands and models, including vintage instruments.
  • Knowledge of advanced soldering, plating, and lacquer repair techniques.
