Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and reliable Mobile Hospital Porter to join our dynamic team. This essential role involves providing critical support across multiple hospital sites within Cornwall, ensuring the safe and timely transport of patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies. You will be a vital link in the efficient operation of our healthcare facilities, contributing directly to patient care and operational flow. This position requires flexibility, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of service. Travel between sites will be required, and associated travel expenses will be paid.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients, who may be immobile or have specific needs, between departments, wards, and various hospital sites.
  • Move medical equipment, laboratory specimens, pharmacy items, and supplies efficiently and carefully.
  • Assist in the movement and setup of beds and other furniture as required.
  • Provide compassionate support to patients during transport, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and manual handling guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with medical staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of transport equipment.
  • Accurately complete all necessary documentation related to transport activities.
  • Be prepared to travel to different hospital sites within Cornwall as per operational needs.

Required Skills

  • Full UK driving license with access to own vehicle
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks safely

  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service environment
  • Knowledge of hospital layouts and procedures
  • First Aid certification
