Job Description

Join Easterseals South Florida as a Part-time Special Needs Helper, focusing on weekend term-time support. This role involves providing essential assistance to individuals with special needs, fostering a supportive and engaging environment. You will work closely with clients on weekends during school terms, helping them participate in activities, learn new skills, and ensure their safety and well-being. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct one-on-one or group support to individuals with special needs during weekend activities.
  • Assist clients with personal care tasks, mobility, and communication as needed.
  • Engage clients in recreational, educational, and social activities tailored to their abilities and interests.
  • Monitor client behavior and physical well-being, reporting any concerns to the supervising staff.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment for all clients.
  • Collaborate with parents, guardians, and other team members to ensure consistent and effective care plans.
  • Document client progress and daily activities accurately and promptly.
  • Adhere to all Easterseals South Florida policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

Required Skills

  • Strong empathy, patience, and compassion for individuals with special needs.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Reliability and punctuality, especially for weekend shifts.
  • Basic understanding of safety procedures and first aid.
  • Physical ability to assist with mobility and participate in active engagements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities (e.g., autism, developmental delays, physical impairments).
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Relevant coursework in special education, psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Ability to adapt to various client needs and situations.
