Job Description
Join CVS Health as a Specialty Pharmacy Technician with a dedicated focus on Oncology and Biotech. In this crucial on-site role, you will play an integral part in our mission to provide specialized pharmaceutical care to patients dealing with complex conditions. You will work closely with pharmacists, patients, and healthcare providers to ensure the accurate and timely processing of prescriptions, manage patient profiles, assist with insurance benefit verification, and provide empathetic support. Your expertise in oncology and biotech medications will be vital in navigating the unique challenges and requirements of these specialized therapies. Key Responsibilities
- Process and fill specialty medication prescriptions accurately and efficiently, with a primary focus on oncology and biotech therapies.
- Verify patient information, insurance coverage, and medication details, escalating complex issues to pharmacists as needed.
- Provide empathetic patient support, including answering medication-related questions, coordinating refills, and assisting with access to care.
- Manage inventory of high-cost specialty medications, ensuring proper storage, handling, and ordering procedures.
- Liaise with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patient support programs to facilitate prescription processing and prior authorizations.
- Maintain meticulous records and documentation in compliance with all regulatory standards and company policies.
- Assist pharmacists in patient education and counseling regarding specialty medications, side effects, and adherence.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with new oncology and biotech therapies and pharmacy practices.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Active Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or State Pharmacy Technician Registration/License as required by Florida Board of Pharmacy
- 2+ years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, with at least 1 year in a specialty pharmacy setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of oncology and biotech medications and their associated disease states.
- Proficiency in pharmacy operating systems and data entry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centered approach.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Experience with Epic, Cerner, or other major EMR systems.
- Previous experience specifically handling sterile compounding or hazardous drugs.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus.
