Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Policy Communications Lead with a strong ‘High Street’ PR focus to join our corporate communications team. This role is crucial for shaping and disseminating our policy positions, particularly as they relate to local communities, small businesses, and Main Street initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing comprehensive communication strategies that translate complex policy matters into accessible and engaging messages for diverse stakeholders, including local media, community leaders, and elected officials. This position requires a strategic thinker with excellent storytelling abilities and a deep understanding of local public relations tactics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute communication strategies for key policy initiatives, focusing on local impact and community engagement.
  • Draft compelling press releases, talking points, speeches, Q&As, and other communication materials for policy-related issues.
  • Serve as a primary media contact for policy-related inquiries from local and regional outlets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local media, community organizations, business associations, and government stakeholders.
  • Monitor public and media sentiment on policy issues relevant to the company's 'High Street' presence and advise leadership accordingly.
  • Collaborate with government relations, legal, and business teams to ensure consistent messaging and policy alignment.
  • Organize and manage local PR events, roundtables, and community engagement activities related to policy initiatives.
  • Provide media training and communications counsel to internal spokespersons on policy matters.

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or public affairs, with a significant focus on policy or community relations.
  • Proven track record of success in local media relations and community engagement.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to simplify complex topics.
  • Strong understanding of the media landscape and experience managing high-profile issues.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent judgment and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in financial services, retail, or a highly regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with Indiana's political and media landscape, particularly in Fort Wayne and surrounding areas.
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
