Job Description

Are you a high school student with a passion for helping younger kids succeed? Sylvan Learning Center in Cleveland, OH is seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable High School Tutors to support elementary school students in various subjects. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience, make a positive impact on your community, and develop leadership skills while earning. You will work directly with students, providing one-on-one or small group instruction, reinforcing foundational concepts, and helping them build strong study habits. We provide training and a supportive environment where you can grow as an educator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engaging and effective one-on-one or small group tutoring in elementary school subjects (e.g., Math, Reading, Writing).
  • Tailor instructional methods to meet the individual learning styles and needs of each student.
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging, and productive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with center directors and lead teachers to ensure student success.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and progress.
  • Communicate effectively with students and center staff.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in high school with strong academic performance, particularly in elementary level subjects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in elementary Math, Reading, and Writing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help younger students learn.
  • Reliable, punctual, and responsible.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in an understandable way.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience tutoring or mentoring younger students (formal or informal).
  • Participation in academic honor societies or relevant school clubs.
  • Recommendations from teachers or counselors.
  • Availability during after-school hours and weekends.
