Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Student Nursery Hand to join our Garden Center team. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone passionate about plants and eager to gain hands-on experience in a retail nursery environment. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the health and beauty of our plant inventory and assisting customers with their gardening needs. This position focuses heavily on plant care and garden maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Water and fertilize plants according to specific schedules and plant needs.
- Pot and repot plants as necessary to ensure healthy growth.
- Organize and merchandise plant displays, ensuring an attractive and tidy presentation.
- Assist customers with plant selection, care advice, and locating gardening products.
- Monitor plants for pests and diseases, reporting any issues to the supervisor.
- Unload and stock new plant deliveries, ensuring proper placement.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization within the nursery area, including sweeping and tidying.
- Perform general garden maintenance tasks such as weeding, pruning, and deadheading.
Required Skills
- A genuine interest in plants, gardening, and horticulture.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn and take initiative.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of plant types, care requirements, or common gardening practices (e.g., from personal gardening hobbies or school projects).
- Previous experience in a retail or customer service environment.
- Enrollment in a high school or college program, especially in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field.
