Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Homeland Security Policy Aide with a strong focus on Emergency Management. This role is integral to supporting the development, analysis, and implementation of policies and procedures related to homeland security and emergency preparedness within Riverside County. The successful candidate will work closely with senior policy advisors and emergency management specialists, conducting research, drafting reports, and assisting in the coordination of inter-agency initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to critical public safety efforts and gain valuable experience in a dynamic and impactful field.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis on current homeland security and emergency management policies, regulations, and best practices.
- Assist in drafting policy briefs, reports, presentations, and other critical documents for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the development and review of emergency operation plans, protocols, and training materials.
- Coordinate meetings, workshops, and inter-agency collaborations related to policy development and implementation.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting homeland security and emergency management at local, state, and federal levels.
- Prepare summaries and recommendations based on research findings to inform policy decisions.
- Provide administrative and project management support to senior policy advisors and program managers.
- Participate in exercises and drills to evaluate and refine emergency response capabilities.
- Engage with community partners and stakeholders to gather input and disseminate information.
- Maintain accurate records and databases of policy documents and related communications.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to interpret complex policy documents and legal frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of emergency management principles and homeland security concepts.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, or a related field.
- Prior experience or internships in a government agency, non-profit, or consulting firm focused on public policy or emergency services.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal government structures and processes.
- Knowledge of GIS tools or data visualization software.
- Project management experience.
