Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Homeland Security Policy Aide with a focus on Emergency Management to join our public sector consulting team in Midtown, Detroit. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical national and local security initiatives, supporting the development, analysis, and implementation of policies designed to enhance community resilience and preparedness. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and a foundational understanding of emergency management principles and homeland security frameworks. You will work closely with senior policy advisors, government clients, and community stakeholders to conduct research, draft policy recommendations, and support the execution of preparedness programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on current and emerging homeland security and emergency management policies, threats, and best practices.
- Assist in drafting comprehensive policy briefs, reports, presentations, and other communication materials for diverse audiences, including government officials and community leaders.
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of emergency preparedness exercises, drills, and training programs.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between various government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private sector stakeholders.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at federal, state, and local levels pertaining to homeland security and emergency management.
- Provide essential administrative and project management support to senior policy advisors and project teams.
- Analyze data and provide insights to inform policy decisions and improve operational effectiveness in emergency response.
- Contribute to grant writing and funding acquisition efforts for emergency management initiatives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, Emergency Management, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in policy analysis, research, or program support within government, non-profit, or consulting sectors.
- Demonstrated strong research and analytical capabilities, with an ability to synthesize complex information.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting professional reports and presentations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Basic understanding of U.S. homeland security enterprise and emergency management frameworks (e.g., NIMS, ICS).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Proven organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Previous internship or professional experience within a federal, state, or local government agency focused on homeland security or emergency management.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools or Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Certifications in emergency management (e.g., FEMA Professional Development Series, Associate Emergency Manager).
- Experience with stakeholder engagement and facilitation.
