Job Description
The City of Midland, Texas, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Trainee Weights & Measures Inspector. This entry-level position offers comprehensive training in the inspection, testing, and certification of commercial weighing and measuring devices used in trade and commerce across our city. Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured training program covering weights and measures laws, regulations, and inspection procedures.
- Learn to accurately test and calibrate various commercial weighing and measuring devices, including scales, fuel pumps, and meters.
- Assist in conducting routine inspections of retail establishments, manufacturing facilities, and other businesses.
- Document inspection findings, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records of compliance and non-compliance.
- Observe and learn proper techniques for identifying and addressing violations of weights and measures standards.
- Communicate effectively with business owners and managers regarding inspection results and regulatory requirements.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the technical aspects of measuring equipment and the impact of inaccuracies.
- Collaborate with senior inspectors and other departmental staff to ensure consistent enforcement.
- Attend relevant training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and departmental policies.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
- Basic mathematical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
