Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Forensic Toxicologist (Chemist) with a strong focus on Adliye/Legal Support to join our team in Anaheim, CA. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing complex chemical analyses on biological samples to detect and quantify drugs, poisons, and other toxic substances, primarily for legal and court-related cases. This role requires exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to articulate scientific findings clearly and concisely in a legal context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses on various biological matrices (e.g., blood, urine, tissue) for the presence of drugs, alcohol, and other toxicologically relevant compounds using techniques such as GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, immunoassay, and spectrophotometry.
  • Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods according to established forensic guidelines and quality standards.
  • Interpret complex analytical data and prepare comprehensive, legally sound reports summarizing findings, including toxicological significance.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in court, depositions, and other legal proceedings, explaining analytical methods, results, and their implications.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments, ensuring proper functioning and adherence to quality control protocols.
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs and internal/external audits to maintain laboratory accreditation and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, legal professionals, and medical examiners to provide scientific support and consultation.
  • Adhere to strict chain-of-custody procedures and maintain meticulous documentation for all samples and analyses.
  • Stay current with advancements in forensic toxicology, analytical techniques, and relevant legal precedents.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Forensic Toxicology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a forensic toxicology laboratory, preferably with a focus on legal support.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation (GC-MS, LC-MS/MS).
  • Strong understanding of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and drug metabolism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to write clear scientific reports and provide expert testimony.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict chain-of-custody and adhere to quality assurance/quality control protocols.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., ASCLD/LAB, ISO 17025).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT).
  • Experience with method development and validation in a regulated forensic environment.
  • Prior experience providing expert witness testimony in criminal or civil court cases.
  • Experience training junior analysts or contributing to team development.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
