Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine laboratory tasks, including glassware washing, sterilization, and preparation of reagents and media.
  • Assist scientists and researchers with experimental setup and breakdown, as directed.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and chemicals, and place orders as needed.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the laboratory environment according to established protocols.
  • Properly dispose of chemical and biological waste following safety guidelines.
  • Operate and maintain basic lab equipment, such as centrifuges, pH meters, and balances.
  • Document experimental data and observations accurately in lab notebooks or electronic systems.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and quality control procedures.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some post-secondary science coursework preferred.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety procedures and good laboratory practices (GLP).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrollment in or completion of a college diploma or degree program in a scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology).
  • Previous volunteer or academic lab experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems.
