Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Adhesives Chemist to join our dynamic Product Development team in Durham, NC. This role is central to our mission of innovating cutting-edge adhesive solutions for various industrial applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading projects from concept to commercialization, focusing on the synthesis, formulation, characterization, and testing of new adhesive products. Key Responsibilities
- Design, synthesize, and formulate novel adhesive systems based on market needs and customer specifications.
- Conduct comprehensive laboratory testing and characterization of adhesive materials, including rheology, mechanical properties, and environmental aging.
- Manage multiple product development projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, sales, and marketing teams to ensure seamless product transfer and successful market adoption.
- Perform root cause analysis for product failures and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, analyses, and results.
- Stay abreast of new technologies, materials, and scientific advancements in the adhesives industry.
- Ensure all work adheres to safety, health, and environmental guidelines.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in adhesives formulation and product development within an industrial setting.
- Strong understanding of polymer chemistry, rheology, surface science, and adhesion mechanisms.
- Proficiency with various analytical techniques (e.g., DSC, TGA, FTIR, GPC, mechanical testers).
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and solve complex technical challenges.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical reports and presentations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering.
- Experience with specific adhesive chemistries such as epoxies, urethanes, acrylics, or silicones.
- Knowledge of statistical experimental design (DOE) and data analysis.
- Experience with intellectual property processes (patent searching, writing).
- Prior experience working with regulatory requirements for adhesive products.
