Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Quality Control Chemist II to join our team in Gary, IN. This role is designed for a professional with a strong foundation in analytical chemistry who is eager to advance their career. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the quality and integrity of our chemical products, performing a wide range of analytical tests, and contributing to method development and validation. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and non-routine analytical testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using various analytical instruments (e.g., GC, HPLC, FTIR, UV-Vis, AA).
- Interpret complex analytical data, troubleshoot issues, and ensure accurate reporting of results.
- Develop, optimize, and validate new analytical methods in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, perform preventative maintenance, and coordinate external repairs as needed.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, certificates of analysis, and documentation following cGMP/GLP guidelines.
- Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) and out-of-trend (OOT) results, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
- Assist in training junior chemists and laboratory technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with all quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the QC laboratory, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a Quality Control or Analytical Chemistry laboratory, preferably within the chemical, petrochemical, or pharmaceutical industry.
- Proficiency with various analytical techniques and instrumentation, including Gas Chromatography (GC), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Visible Spectroscopy, and Atomic Absorption (AA).
- Strong understanding of cGMP, GLP, ISO, and other relevant regulatory guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot analytical methods and instrumentation.
- Excellent data analysis, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
- Proficiency in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemistry or a related field.
- Experience with method development and validation.
- Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and quality by design (QbD) principles.
- Previous experience in a leadership or mentorship role.
- Knowledge of specific industry standards or specialized analytical techniques relevant to polymers or petrochemicals.
