Job Description
We are seeking an visionary and dynamic Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) to lead our scientific strategy and research initiatives. This pivotal role will drive innovation, establish scientific leadership, and ensure the successful translation of cutting-edge research into impactful products and services. The CSO will be instrumental in shaping our scientific direction, building and mentoring a world-class research team, and fostering a culture of scientific excellence and collaboration. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive scientific strategy aligned with the company's vision and business objectives.
- Oversee all scientific research and development activities, ensuring scientific rigor, innovation, and timely project delivery.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of scientists and researchers, fostering a collaborative and impactful research environment.
- Identify and evaluate new scientific opportunities, technologies, and partnerships that can enhance our product pipeline and capabilities.
- Represent the company as a scientific thought leader at conferences, with key opinion leaders, and to potential partners and investors.
- Ensure scientific compliance with regulatory standards and ethical guidelines.
- Drive the publication of scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to the company's intellectual property portfolio.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and clinical teams to integrate scientific insights into product development.
- Manage the scientific budget and resources effectively to achieve strategic goals.
Required Skills
- PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Genetics, Neuroscience, Computer Science with a focus on life sciences).
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in scientific research and development, preferably within a biotech, pharmaceutical, or health technology startup environment.
- Demonstrated track record of scientific innovation, publications, and successful translation of research into products or clinical applications.
- Proven ability to build, manage, and inspire high-performing scientific teams.
- Deep understanding of scientific methodologies, experimental design, and data analysis.
- Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and collaborating across diverse teams and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience securing grants or significant external funding for scientific initiatives.
- Familiarity with regulatory processes relevant to health tech or biotech products.
- Previous experience as a CSO or in a similar senior scientific leadership role within a venture-backed startup.
- Strong network within the academic and industry scientific communities.
