Job Description
Bridgeport Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pediatric Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist with a passion for working with children to make a significant impact. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing therapeutic interventions for children with a wide range of developmental, physical, and cognitive challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments for pediatric patients, evaluating motor skills, sensory processing, cognitive function, and activities of daily living.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, patient and family goals, and evidence-based practice.
- Implement engaging and effective therapeutic interventions, including play-based therapy, sensory integration techniques, fine motor skill development, and adaptive equipment training.
- Educate parents and caregivers on home exercise programs and strategies to support their child's development and functional independence.
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and social workers.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient evaluations, treatment progress, and discharge summaries.
- Participate in regular team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines, ensuring patient safety and confidentiality.
Required Skills
- Master's or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
- Current valid state licensure as an Occupational Therapist (or eligibility for licensure in Connecticut).
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience specifically in pediatric occupational therapy.
- Strong understanding of child development, common pediatric diagnoses, and evidence-based OT interventions.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialty certification in pediatrics (e.g., Board Certification in Pediatrics from AOTA, SIPT certification).
- Experience with a variety of pediatric populations and settings (e.g., outpatient, inpatient, school-based).
- Fluency in a second language relevant to the local community (e.g., Spanish).
- Experience mentoring junior therapists or fieldwork students.
