Job Description

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services is seeking a dedicated Reservoir & Dam Maintenance Assistant to join our team. You will work under the guidance of experienced professionals, assisting with the routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of critical dam and reservoir infrastructure throughout the state of New Hampshire. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior maintenance staff with routine inspections of dams, spillways, gates, and other reservoir components.
  • Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance tasks, including clearing debris, vegetation control, painting, and basic structural upkeep.
  • Support the collection of data, readings from monitoring equipment, and maintenance records.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and environmental regulations during all maintenance activities.
  • Participate in emergency response drills and actual responses as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including tools and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding project status and potential issues.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic familiarity with common hand and power tools.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to established procedures.
  • Effective communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Valid New Hampshire Class D Driver's License or ability to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in general labor, construction, landscaping, or outdoor maintenance.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical or structural repair principles.
  • OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations or water management practices.
