Job Description
A Hospital Porter at UPS plays a critical role in supporting healthcare logistics. This on-site position involves the safe and efficient movement of goods, medical equipment, and sometimes patients within a hospital environment, ensuring that critical supplies are delivered where and when they are needed. This role is integral to maintaining the smooth operation of hospital services and patient care, directly contributing to patient well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport medical equipment, supplies, and specimens to designated areas within the hospital.
- Assist with the safe transfer and movement of patients between departments using appropriate equipment.
- Ensure timely delivery of pharmacy items, lab results, and patient meals throughout the facility.
- Manage and organize inventory in designated storage areas, ensuring proper stock rotation and cleanliness.
- Operate and maintain transport equipment such as wheelchairs, gurneys, and carts, reporting any malfunctions.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including strict infection control protocols and patient confidentiality.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with hospital staff, patients, and visitors.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including sanitizing equipment after use.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) safely and consistently.
- Strong physical stamina and endurance for prolonged standing, walking, pushing, and pulling.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse individuals.
- High attention to detail and unwavering commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, demanding hospital environment.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to read labels, follow instructions, and maintain simple records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or logistics setting (e.g., hospital, warehouse, delivery).
- Knowledge of hospital layout and departmental procedures.
- Valid driver's license (if operating company vehicles within the campus or between facilities).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
