Job Description
UPS is seeking a highly skilled and experienced HGV Instructor to join our dynamic team in Lexington, KY. This is a critical role for individuals passionate about safety, training, and developing the next generation of professional Heavy Goods Vehicle drivers. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive HGV driver training programs, including classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel coaching.
- Evaluate and assess driver performance in various driving conditions, providing objective feedback.
- Provide constructive feedback and remedial training as needed to ensure all trainees meet required competencies.
- Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations (e.g., DOT, FMCSA).
- Maintain accurate and detailed training records, participant progress reports, and certification documentation.
- Promote a strong safety-first culture among all trainees, emphasizing defensive driving techniques and hazard awareness.
- Stay updated with industry best practices, technological advancements in HGV, and regulatory changes to continually enhance training effectiveness.
- Assist in the development, refinement, and implementation of innovative training materials and curriculum.
- Mentor new instructors and provide guidance to ensure consistency in training delivery.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as an HGV driver with an impeccable, clean driving record.
- Demonstrable prior experience in HGV driver training, instruction, or a similar educational role.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and instruct diverse groups of trainees.
- Strong working knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA guidelines, and all relevant safety standards.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively as part of a dedicated team.
- Proficiency in conducting both theoretical classroom instruction and practical, behind-the-wheel training.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to various learning styles and challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation Management, Education, or a closely related field.
- Certified Professional Instructor (CPI) or equivalent recognized training certification.
- Experience with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and telematics in Heavy Goods Vehicles.
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish/English) is a significant advantage.
- Experience with adult learning principles and curriculum development.
