Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Paleontology Lab Assistant to join our research team. This role is crucial for the preparation, cataloging, and maintenance of fossil specimens, supporting ongoing research projects and educational initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in paleontology, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to scientific accuracy and safety protocols in a laboratory setting. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and clean fossil specimens using various tools and techniques, including mechanical preparation and chemical consolidation.
  • Assist with the accurate cataloging and inventory management of fossil collections, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
  • Support senior paleontologists and researchers in fieldwork preparations and data collection.
  • Assist in the creation of casts and molds for educational and research purposes.
  • Contribute to the organization and maintenance of specimen storage facilities.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and best practices in the lab.
  • Participate in outreach activities or public demonstrations as needed.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Paleontology, Geology, Biology, Anthropology, or a related scientific field.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in a laboratory or museum setting, preferably with fossil specimens.
  • Proficiency in using standard laboratory tools and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a research team.
  • Knowledge of basic safety protocols in a scientific laboratory.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with fossil preparation techniques, including microsample analysis.
  • Familiarity with database management systems for specimen cataloging.
  • Experience in geological fieldwork or excavation.
