Key Responsibilities

  • Assist special education teachers in implementing music-based activities and lessons for students with diverse learning needs.
  • Support students individually and in small groups during music therapy sessions or musical instruction.
  • Adapt musical activities and materials to meet the specific developmental and educational goals of each student.
  • Encourage student participation, engagement, and self-expression through various musical forms and instruments.
  • Observe and document student progress, behavior, and responses to musical interventions.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, therapists, and other staff members to integrate music into broader educational plans.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Assist with classroom management and provide direct support to students as needed throughout the school day.
  • Participate in professional development and training sessions provided by the district.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A genuine passion for music and its therapeutic potential.
  • Empathy, patience, and a strong desire to work with children with special needs.
  • Basic understanding of musical concepts and ability to play simple instruments (e.g., keyboard, guitar, percussion) or sing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
