Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and patient-focused Outpatient Meds-to-Beds Technician to join our dedicated pharmacy team in Oxnard. This vital role is centered around enhancing the patient experience during discharge by directly delivering prescribed medications to their bedside. You will be responsible for ensuring patients receive their medications accurately, understand their treatment plans, and have the opportunity to ask questions in a supportive environment. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient care. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver discharge medications directly to patients at their bedside, ensuring a smooth and convenient transition of care.
  • Provide clear, concise, and empathetic medication education to patients and/or their caregivers, focusing on dosage, administration, potential side effects, and adherence.
  • Verify patient identity and ensure accurate medication dispensing against the prescription order.
  • Address patient questions and concerns regarding their medications, escalating complex issues to a pharmacist or nurse as appropriate.
  • Process patient payments for prescriptions accurately and efficiently using the point-of-sale system.
  • Coordinate closely with pharmacy staff, nursing teams, and physicians to optimize the meds-to-beds process.
  • Maintain meticulous records of medication deliveries, patient interactions, and any issues encountered.
  • Adhere to all legal, ethical, and organizational standards for pharmacy practice and patient privacy (HIPAA).
  • Assist with inventory management and other pharmacy-related tasks as needed.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills with a strong patient-first focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact compassionately and effectively with diverse patient populations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in medication handling and documentation.
  • Basic mathematical skills for dosage calculations and payment processing.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) from PTCB or NHA.
  • Previous experience (1+ year) in an outpatient pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, or similar healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with Kaiser Permanente's systems and protocols.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) highly desirable to serve our diverse community.
