Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Music Metadata Specialist with a strong focus on digital archiving to join our remote team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of music metadata across our vast digital catalog. You will play a critical role in preserving the integrity of our digital assets, facilitating discoverability, and supporting various internal teams including licensing, A&R, and digital operations. This position requires a deep understanding of music data standards, digital asset management principles, and an unwavering commitment to data quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive data entry, validation, and enrichment of music metadata, including artist information, track details, genre classifications, publishing rights, and recording dates.
  • Audit existing metadata for accuracy and consistency, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Implement and maintain metadata standards (e.g., DDEX, RIAA, ID3 tags) to ensure compliance and interoperability.
  • Collaborate with content ingestion teams to ensure proper metadata capture at the point of entry.
  • Manage and organize digital audio and associated media files within our archival systems.
  • Develop and document metadata workflows and best practices.
  • Provide support for metadata-related queries from internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to ongoing projects aimed at improving metadata quality, searchability, and system functionality.
  • Assist in the migration of legacy data to new digital archive platforms.
  • Stay current with industry trends and technologies related to music metadata and digital archiving.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in metadata management or digital asset management, preferably within the music or entertainment industry.
  • Proficiency with common music metadata standards (e.g., DDEX, ID3 tags).
  • Strong understanding of digital audio file formats and their properties.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) or digital asset management (DAM) systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a remote environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-solving aptitude with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Science, Music Business, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with SQL or other database querying languages.
  • Experience with copyright and intellectual property rights pertaining to music.
  • Knowledge of various music genres, artists, and industry history.
  • Experience with project management methodologies.
