Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Music Audition Coach to join our team, focusing on preparing high school students for college music program auditions. This vital role involves guiding aspiring musicians through the rigorous audition process, helping them refine their technical skills, performance readiness, and overall artistic presentation. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of music theory, performance practices across various genres, and the specific requirements of top-tier conservatories and university music departments. You will work closely with students to develop personalized coaching plans, build their repertoire, and instill the confidence needed to excel in competitive audition environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement personalized coaching plans tailored to each student's specific audition goals and chosen instrument/vocal focus.
- Provide expert guidance on repertoire selection, technical exercises, sight-reading, ear training, and music theory relevant to college auditions.
- Conduct mock auditions, providing constructive feedback on performance technique, stage presence, and interview skills.
- Educate students and parents on the application processes, scholarship opportunities, and requirements of various music programs.
- Collaborate with students to create compelling artistic statements and portfolios where applicable.
- Stay current with audition trends and requirements of leading music institutions.
- Maintain detailed records of student progress and communicate regularly with students and their guardians.
- Inspire and motivate students to achieve their highest musical potential and overcome performance anxiety.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Music Performance, Music Education, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience coaching or teaching music, specifically with a focus on audition preparation.
- Demonstrated expertise in at least one primary instrument/vocal area, with strong proficiency in music theory and aural skills.
- In-depth knowledge of college/conservatory audition processes and expectations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.
- Ability to adapt coaching methods to suit diverse student needs and learning styles.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Doctoral degree in a music-related discipline.
- Experience as an admissions committee member or faculty interviewer at a music institution.
- Professional performance experience or recording credits.
- Familiarity with online coaching platforms and virtual teaching tools.
